On the fictional Eastern European island of Carpathia, a shy teenage girl is raised to fear an elusive animal species known as Ochi. They are hunted by her own father and a team of boy soldiers he’s trained, but after discovering a wounded baby Ochi, she escapes on a quest to bring him home. A spellbinding tale with marvelous original puppetry and reportedly little CGI, this family-friendly film is reminiscent of adventurous 1980s favorites set in mythical lands. Helena Zengel, a Golden Globes nominee for her role in News of the World, leads a cast that also includes Willem Dafoe, Emily Watson, and Finn Wolfhard.
