Followed by a discussion with director Jeremy Power Regimbal and film subject Maggie Doyne
In 2005, after graduating from high school in New Jersey, Maggie Doyne spent a gap year in India, where she met Tope Malla, a Nepalese refugee caring for other orphans like himself. United in purpose, they pooled resources to establish a children’s home, women’s empowerment program, and school in Nepal. Their efforts led to international recognition, but days after receiving a 2015 CNN Hero of the Year award, she faced a devastating loss, plunging her into a despair she didn’t believe she could overcome. This film about an extraordinary humanitarian mission is also a story of unconditional love and its power to heal and effect change in our world.

ABOUT THE FILM SUBJECT
Maggie Doyne is co-founder of the BlinkNow Foundation and Kopila Valley Children’s Home and School in Surkhet, Nepal, and the author of Between the Mountain and the Sky: A Mother's Story of Love, Loss, Healing, and Hope. At age nineteen, she used her babysitting money and worked with the local community to build a home for orphaned children in war-torn Nepal. In 2010, she and her team opened a school for five hundred of the region’s most impoverished children. Throughout the past decade, BlinkNow and Kopila have worked to deepen and grow the organization through grassroots community development efforts. Her work has been championed by Pulitzer Prize–winning columnist Nicholas Kristof and the Dalai Lama, among others. Maggie’s story carries a message of hope, love, and the possibility of how the smallest individual acts can spark huge world change.
