Once a towering figure in London’s pop art scene of the 1960s and ‘70s, Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen) is now a broke, bitter has-been who has not painted in decades. As his health fades, his two estranged children grow desperate for an inheritance and enlist Lori (Michaela Coel), a gifted art restorer and former forger, to pose as his assistant and secretly complete his long-abandoned canvases. But living under the same roof as a mercurial artist proves far messier than expected, and what begins as a calculated con quickly unravels into shifting alliances, ethical gray areas, and long-simmering resentments. The latest comedy-drama from Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh, this razor-sharp film explores the uneasy intersection of art and commerce, the compromises artists make to survive, and whether authenticity lies in the work itself or in the intentions behind it.
