Discussion to follow (via Skype) with the directors Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg
A good documentary filmmaker delivers a riveting story. A great one not only does that, but follows it as it changes and takes other shapes. What begins as an account of the remarkable comeback of Anthony Weiner, a scandal-plagued ex-congressman running for mayor of New York City, takes a sharp turn once he is forced to admit to new sexting allegations—an embarrassment almost identical to earlier ones. With New York as a loud and bustling backdrop, and unfettered access to its subject, this documentary charges through an increasingly baffling series of events and delivers a rollicking insider’s view of a political campaign in crisis mode.
