Discussion with film subjects Sam Berns, Dr. Leslie Gordon, and Dr. Scott Berns to follow
This documentary, by an Oscar-winning filmmaking couple, is a story of hope and triumph. At the age of two, Sam Berns was diagnosed with Progeria, the progressive aging disorder so rare that fewer than 250 children in the world have it. His parents, Drs. Leslie Gordon and Scott Berns, were told that there was no treatment or cure, and they should simply enjoy what limited time they had with their son. Unwilling to give up so easily, they set out on a journey to save Sam and all the other children with the disease. In less than a decade, their advances have led to identifying the gene at fault, creating the first drug trials for treatment, and revealing the amazing discovery that Progeria is linked to the aging process in all of us.
Watch the directors talk about the film.
