Discussion to follow with film subject Rich Low and Willoughby Britton, Research Director of the Brown University Contemplative Studies Initiative; Jake Davis, Chilmark resident and research affiliate at Brown University, will moderate

In 1992, Professor Richard Davidson, one of the world’s leading neuroscientists, met the Dalai Lama, who encouraged him to study compassion and kindness by using the same rigorous methods he’d used to study depression and anxiety. In this captivating documentary, the results of Davidson’s studies are applied to treat both returning Iraq War vets with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The film poses two fundamental questions: what is consciousness (and how does it manifest in the brain and body), and is it possible to physically change the brain solely through mental practices?
