The Kid with a Bike

This moving film from Belgium’s most celebrated contemporary filmmakers follows feisty Cyril, an eleven-year-old boy who refuses to accept that he has been abandoned by his parents. Samantha is a local hairdresser whom Cyril randomly latches onto, and who will eventually manage to recover his one true possession, his bike. It’s a story of struggle and resilience peppered with moments of honest beauty, affirming that even in the dreariest of universes everything can ultimately be all right. It premiered at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival and won the festival's Grand Prix.
