The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom

Directed by Lucy Walker
U.S.A., 2011, 39 min.
Language: Japanese, with English subtitles
Genre: Documentary

Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Lucy Walker (Waste Land) takes her cameras to Japan to focus on survivors in the areas hardest hit by Japan's recent tsunami. She finds a resilient populace that somehow musters the courage to revive and rebuild as cherry blossom season begins. The film features music by Moby and will stay with you for days. It is a stunning visual poem about the ephemeral nature of life and the healing power of Japan's most beloved flower, the cherry blossom.

Following the screening, beloved Vineyard residents Nancy Aronie and Justen Ahren will share their personal response to the film.
