The Fairy

Directed by Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon, and Bruno Romy
Belgium / France, 2011, 94 min.
Language: French
Genre: Narrative

Belgium-based trio Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon, and Bruno Romy follow their acclaimed comedies with another Jacques Tati-inspired romp: this time, a charmingly off-kilter adventure about a hotel clerk who falls in love with a wish-granting fairy. With sparse dialogue, clever camera work, and fabulous physical performances, this hilarious film blends classic clown technique with modern filmmaking flare. It is a delightful homage to trailblazers like Chaplin and Keaton, perpetuating a great tradition of simple storytelling through movement, music, and minimalism.
