Wim Wenders nearly abandoned his documentary on Pina Bausch when the legendary German choreographer died days after being diagnosed with cancer and just before he was to begin shooting. But when the dancers of Bausch's company wanted to continue with the project as a way of honoring the life’s work of their inspirational director, Wenders went back to the drawing board. The result is a cross between film, dance, and theater that honors a true artistic visionary. Employing unconventional locations, gorgeous costumes, and stunning cinematography, Wenders masterfully captures the staggering beauty of Bausch's choreography and sets a new precedent for the depiction of dance in film.
