Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, Dheepan follows a Sri Lankan man who flees civil war, taking two strangers, a woman and an orphaned girl, with him. After moving from one temporary home to the next, they settle in a housing block in the suburbs of Paris. Despite language and cultural barriers they find work and the girl enrolls in school, but past violence and present threats reopen war wounds for all three. Dheepan presents, an outsider’s view of France, and a consideration of the way circumstance pushes each of the three refugees to lean into and against the roles they’ve been assigned. Audiard (Oscar-nominated director of A Prophet) takes us on a searing and suspenseful ride into the heart of the refugee experience.

“It’s a pleasure to put yourself in the hands of such a confident director.” – David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter
