With baseball, it’s all for love of the game. This heartwarming and hilarious film documents one of the great true stories about America’s underdogs—in this case, the Portland Mavericks of 1973. Hollywood’s Bing Russell bought a field in Oregon and created the only independent Single-A baseball team in the U.S. He was told it would never work, but attracting the attention and desire of players nationwide, Bing’s team of misfits was soon climbing the ranks and playing ball with the major leagues, proving to themselves—and everybody else—that independent spirit can beat the odds.
